Sinusitis - chronic

Alternative Names: Chronic sinus infection; Chronic sinusitis Symptoms: Symptoms may persist for 3 months or more. Text Continues Below headache (in the front of the head or around the eyes) facial pain around the eyes or in the forehead or cheeks pain in the roof of the mouth or teeth nasal drainage (yellow, yellow-green, thick) cough Signs and tests: Percussion over a sinus shows tenderness. Normal sinuses transilluminate (glow when a light is shone directly on the sinuses), but sinuses do not transilluminate when sinusitis is present. Sinus X-rays, cranial CT scan, or cranial MRI shows the sinuses to be filled with fluid, or shows thickening of the membranes of the sinus. Aspiration of the sinuses may provide information on the bacteria causing the infection.
