Scrofula is a tuberculous infection of the lymph nodes in the neck. Alternative Names

In children, can also be caused by Mycobacterium scrofulaceum or Mycobacterium avium. Infection with mycobacteria is usually caused by breathing in air that is contaminated by these organisms.
