From Healthscout's partner site on chronic pain, HealthCentral.com
Nasal septum repair Expectations after surgery After surgery, both sides of the nose may be tightly packed (stuffed with cotton materials) to avoid nose bleeds. The material is usually removed 24 to 36 hours after surgery. Convalescence To help the healing, it is recommended that you avoid blowing your nose or holding your breath and tightening your muscles while bearing down for a bowel movement for a few days after surgery. Ice packs on the nose may help relieve pain.
