What the risks are: The risks associated with having blood drawn are: bleeding fainting or feeling lightheaded hematoma (blood accumulating under the skin) infection (a slight risk any time the skin is broken) multiple punctures to locate veins Special considerations: Calcitonin inhibits bone resorption and can be used as a medication to treat several bone diseases and calcium problems, including osteoporosis, Paget's disease, and hypercalcemia (high blood calcium).
