Pleural fluid cytology

Normal cells are seen.

In an abnormal test, there are cancerous (malignant) cells. This may mean there is a cancerous tumor. This test most often detects:

• Breast cancer
• Lymphoma
• Lung cancer
• Ovarian cancer
• Stomach cancer
