(HealthDay News) -- The annual flu shot is recommended for most people, but certain people are at particularly high risk of contracting the nasty bug and its complications.

Text Continues Below

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says these people should be vaccinated every year:

  • Children, starting at age 6 months and up until age 19.
  • Women who are pregnant.
  • Anyone aged 50 and older.
  • Anyone with certain chronic medical conditions.
  • Nursing home residents.
  • Anyone who works around people who are at high risk for flu complications. These include health-care workers and people who take care of children aged 6 months or younger. The latter are too young to be vaccinated.
