(HealthDay News) -- Dinnertime is often rushed, and it may seem that there's little time to prepare a healthy meal for the family.

Text Continues Below

The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests how to prepare healthy meals, despite a hectic schedule:

  • Try to plan and cook upcoming meals when you've got the time, such as on weekends.
  • Prepare morning breakfast the night before.
  • Don't worry about making a fancy dinner; opt instead to spend time together and enjoy something healthy. Try a simple sandwich, soup or salad.
  • Plan for quick meals on the go, but avoid fast food.
