(Ivanhoe Newswire) -- Look for a new way to fight cavities in grocery stores next year. A product containing friendly bacteria that fight cavity-causing bacteria will be included in a new product hitting stores in 2007.
Representatives of a German chemical company, BASF, report a new strain of lactobacillus destroys Strepptococcus mutans, the bacteria that produces the acid that causes tooth decay. Lactobacillus anti-caries could be used in gums, toothpastes or mouthwashes.

BASF scientists are also experimenting with other strains of lactobacillus that could one day prevent underarm and foot odor.
